Eating Out: Provenciano | Quezon City, Philippines

Provenciano is one of my parents’ favorite restaurants in Quezon City that serve traditional Filipino cuisine located at the famous Maginhawa Street in Teachers Village.

In the parking lot, you’ll find a a horseless kalesa (carriage) that’s good for a quick photo session. Before you enter the restaurant, there’s this tiny faux bahay kubo (nipa hut) where bibingka and puto bumbong are made.

The interior is heavily Filipiniana-themed with wood interiors. There’s even a Sawsawan Bar, so you can whip up your own sawsawan (dipping sauce or condiments).

As for the food, we had this Chichalak at Achara, which is Bulacan pork crackling and Bulaklak with homemade pickled green papaya.

Mangoes are a must-eat for me when I’m in the Philippines. This is Provenciano’s Ensaladang Mangga with green mango, tomato and onions served with Provenciano shrimp paste.

We’ve never eaten kadyos, so we tried this Kadyos ng Iloilo, “[A]n Ilonggo specialty dish made from pigeon peas, pork belly and green jackfruit flavored with souring agent ‘batuan'”. It’s pretty similar to sinigang.

My mom wanted Pinaputok na Tilapia – “Grilled tilapia stuffed with tomato, onion and chilies wrapped in banana leaf”.

For desserts, we had Bibingka and Puto Bumbong, which I explained in a previous post.

Verdict: While there are parking spaces there, be warned – it can get pretty cramped. Thankfully, there’s a friendly security guard who will help you park your car properly. We didn’t wait to be seated, so that’s a good thing. However, there was a queue by the time we left. Try to get there early, so you’ll get seated.

Provenciano’s menu covered dishes from different regions of the country such as Capampangan (sisig), Ilocano (papaitan and dinaldalem), Ilonggo (kadyos and batcho-chay), Bicolano (pininyahang manok), among others. They make it easy for you to try food from other parts of the country, so that’s excellent.

If you’re looking for a restaurant to bring a balikbayan to, you won’t go wrong with Provenciano.
