Eating Out: Mokomiya | White Plains, NY

Last Sunday, hubby wanted ramen and I knew exactly where to go – Mokomiya, a ramen place that I discovered via Instagram. We went for a 40-mile-each-way drive to check it out. That’s just the way we roll.

Our tastes are decidedly simple. Despite it being a hot day, we ordered two bowls of Shoyu Ramen with Karaage for our appetizer. I also ordered a bottle of Ramune for fun.

Here’s the karaage.

It’s really just deep fried chicken that came with two lemon slices.

The Shoyu Ramen had chicken broth, soy sauce, thin noodle with roast pork, seasoned egg, scallion, bamboo shoot, fish cake and nori seaweed.

Hubby quietly slurped away and quickly finished his ramen before I was even halfway finished with mine.

Honestly, I am not a fan of ramen with chicken broth. I’ve always preferred tonkotsu ramen with its tasty pork broth. Imagine my surprise when I finished my bowl of Shoyu Ramen!

Verdict: There were three different tables occupied by Japanese folks when we got there (always a good sign). The place had seating for 36 persons, so we were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly and helpful, plus our food arrived fast. Hubby wants to go back for their Shio Ramen and Miso Ramen. I’m not saying no to that idea.

So far, we know two ramen places in Westchester County – Mokomiya and Roc-N-Ramen. I wish there was a ramen place close to Danbury. Lately, it’s been difficult to get seated at Mecha Noodle Bar in Fairfield. Anyway, in the meantime, we’ll probably continue our long drives in search of good ramen outside New York City.
