Eating Out: Hoodoo Brown BBQ | Ridgefield, CT

I’ve been monitoring Hoodoo Brown BBQ in Ridgefield way before they even opened. Texas-style barbecue in Ridgefield? I’m on to you! We ended up following each other in Instagram and Twitter. When they finally opened last month, hubby and I decided to wait. We wanted to give them some time to iron out the kinks.

But after work last Friday, hubby and I didn’t feel like cooking, so eating out was the way to go. We were already in Ridgefield, so why not try Hoodoo Brown BBQ? But I didn’t have my trusty camera with me! How could I write about it? Hubby pointed out that was a good thing. “You’ll get to enjoy your food.” HAH! Point taken.

When we got to Hoodoo Brown BBQ, it wasn’t even 6 p.m yet the place was full. Thankfully, we got seated quickly. By the time we started eating, there was already a queue waiting to be seated.

We ordered a half-pound of Cracklin’ Pork Belly with a side of collard greens, plus the Battle of Ridgefield sandwich that had brisket, crispy cubed pork belly and apple vinegar slaw on the side. Yeah, we like pork belly! I quickly snapped this photo using my phone.

Oh, such incredible flavor and tenderness! The cracklin’ pork belly skin was delicately crispy while the meat was tenderly tasty. Surprisingly, the skin stirred up memories of Philippine lechon. I must try it again to verify. Anyway, we saw four different sauces, but with meat that tasty, you don’t really need any sauce. The apple vinegar slaw was a great find that paired so well with the BBQ.

Verdict: I am only too happy to have Texas-style barbecue so close to Danbury. Excellent location on route 7, although I wish they have more parking spaces. Service was pretty attentive. As for the food, it’s really finger-lickin’ barbecue. We’re definitely going back for more food and pictures. I can’t wait to try their Texas poutine and burnt ends!
