Eating Out: Bombay Express | Danbury, CT

Guess who discovered a pure vegetarian Indian restaurant tonight? We did! During our search for dinner tonight, my husband and I found our way to Bombay Express. We absolutely adore Indian food, but in the years that we’ve eaten Indian food, we’ve never tried Indian street food because we’ve never been to India (yes, we want to visit it someday!). Bombay Express allowed us to try that.

The lady who took our order was kind enough to explain the food on the menu. Upon her suggestion, we tried the Delhi Chaat, the Chole Bathura and tonight’s special, the Cabbage Mutter. I’m including the description of each item based on their online menu, except for the Cabbage Mutter that isn’t on the menu.

"Puffed mini Crisp, filled with onion, potatoes, tomato, yogurt , chutney and topped with fried thin gram noodles"

"Curried Chick peas prepared with blend of Tomatoes onions, ginger, garlic and spices. served with Fried flat bread"

Her food suggestions proved excellent. I ordered rose lassi and my husband had mango lassi (yum!). Dare I confess that we finished everything? We surely did!

There are only two negatives I can think of: its location and the table arrangement. We’ve passed the area so many times over the years, but never saw it because it’s behind a bigger building! Maybe better signage will help. As for the table layout, they have such a big space, adding more tables might be a good thing.

Anyway, their offerings are freshly cooked, affordably priced and reasonably proportioned. The other patrons tonight are Indians too. That’s a great sign, if you ask me. With its casual dining atmosphere, we will definitely go back to try the other food on the menu. In fact, I already listed the ones we’ll try next time.

I’m happy to say that we’ve found a new place to go to when craving Indian food!
